How to Roll Your Classes Over to a New Session

2026-10-16 · 4 min read · SMS

What rollover does

When a session ends, you should not have to rebuild every class, section, and subject by hand. Rollover copies the structure — classes, sections, subjects, and how they link together — into a fresh session.

Students and their history stay with the old session. The old session becomes archived: read-only, still there whenever you need it, never in your way.

Before you start

Rollover is a Pro and Max feature. On the Free plan you set up the new session by hand. If you are on a paid plan, you will find the rollover wizard on the Academic Sessions page.

Have the new session's name and dates ready — for example, 2026–27 with its start and end dates.

Run the wizard

The wizard shows you a preview before it copies anything: which classes and sections will be created, and how many of each. Check it, then run it.

  1. Open Academic Sessions from the sidebar.
  2. Open the rollover wizard and pick the session to copy from.
  3. Enter the new session name and dates.
  4. Review the preview, then run the rollover.

After the rollover

The new session is created with your classes and subjects in place. Add your students to it — fresh enrolments for the new session — and set it as the current session so it becomes your default view.

The old session stays archived. You can still open it, read its attendance and results, and export its reports. Nothing is deleted.

What does not carry over

Rollover copies structure, not people or marks. Students, attendance, tests, and marks all stay with the session they belong to. That is deliberate: a new session starts clean, and the old record stays exactly as it was.
